Southampton announce partnership with Virginia FC Youth

Southampton announced a new three-year partnership with US-based club Virginia FC Youth.

Formed in 2019, VAFC were formed to create a football pathway for young players aged five to 19 and has its own Under 23 side.

Southampton will support VAFC’s development across its youth programme.

The partnership between both clubs will provide VAFC staff, player and parents opportunities to engage with Southampton’s coach and player development programme, including an annual UK player development camp for a squad of young players.

“VIRGINIA FC Youth have shown a real ambition to develop as a club,” Mark Abrahams, Southampton’s Director of Business & Community Development commented in the club’s official press release. “Sporting director Kevin Darcy is committed to ensure his players development in the best way possible and therefore this naturally aligns with our own Southampton Way.”

Darcy, VAFC’s Sporting Director, added: “ Having worked in the youth game for 30-plus years, this partnership is unprecedented, with direct access to curriculum, Academy staff, SFC training sessions, international travel and hosting of SFC staff for player identification camps and development.

“The goal for VAFC is to emulate the SFC Academy model and enhance our club offerings to attract the peninsula’s top players and coaches. Our Under Armour partnership has provided this connection with Southampton FC and we are proud and excited to provide the best look and ultimately the most professional environment for our membership.”
