Southampton’s FA Cup third round tie with Shrewsbury Town has been rearranged to be held at St Mary’s on Tuesday 19 January.
This means Saints’ scheduled Premier League game at Leeds United on Wednesday 20 January has been postponed. At the time of writing, no new date has been announced for that fixture as yet.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men were set to welcome the League One Club last weekend. However, the game was called off after an outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus saw both Shrewsbury playing and coaching staff fall ill.
According to a club statement, Southampton - Shrewsbury Town will kick off at 8pm next Tuesday and will be broadcast live on BT Sport.
The winner of the rescheduled match will face FA Cup holders Arsenal in the fourth round. That fixture is set to take place on the weekend of 23/24 January.
With the Leeds game postponed, this could lead to a potential fixture pile-up in the not-so-distant future.
