Southampton vs. Chelsea team news
Southampton are seeking to overcome their turgid run of form against a Chelsea side that has looked rejuvenated under guidance of new manager Thomas Tuchel.
Saints will have to do it the hard way as head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl continues to have a series of key players unavailable for selection.
Full-back Kyle Walker-Peters, one of Southampton’s most important players so far this season, is out with a hamstring injury. It’s expected that Walker-Peters will miss the rest of February due to his muscle problem picked up against Wolves last weekend.
Theo Walcott and Ibrahima Diallo are the other key men out with injury, while squad players like Will Smallbone, Michael Obafemi and Nathan Tella will miss out.
Chelsea have a hectic football schedule on the horizon so it’s thought there will be an element of team rotation required and that could start today.
Striker Tammy Abraham sustained an ankle injury against Newcastle last weekend, but he is thought to be available this afternoon.
Blues midfielder Kai Havertz is also expected to feature today after recovering from his own knock.
However, Thiago Silva and Christian Pulisic are confirmed absentees for today’s fixture.
