West Brom vs Southampton team news

Southampton got their third Premier League win of 2021 against Burnley last weekend and take on a confident West Bromwich Albion side who are fresh off their stunning victory over Chelsea.

Saints may have to make the Midlands trip without a key player. Kyle Walker-Peters reportedly has an injury, though he has not been ruled out of being available for this evening’s game.

Long-term absentees Oriol Romeu, Michael Obafemi and Will Smallbone remain out with their respective injuries.

West Brom manager Sam Allardyce could also be missing a defender.

Branislav Ivanovic faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury he picked up against former club Chelsea last weekend.

However, they could welcome Dara O’Shea back into the matchday squad against Southampton after overcoming an ankle knock.

West Brom vs. Southampton pre-match stats

  • Southampton are vying to win three consecutive away league games against West Brom for the first time.
  • They can also equal their longest top-flight streak of five successive victories against a single opponent.
  • Albion’s only home win in the past six meetings came in the Premier League in February 2015 (D1, L4).

West Bromwich Albion

  • The Baggies scored as many goals in their 5-2 victory at Chelsea last week as they had in their previous 10 league matches.
  • West Brom have failed to score in six of their nine home league fixtures under Sam Allardyce, with their only win at The Hawthorns coming against Brighton in February.
  • They could win consecutive top-flight games for the first time since May 2018.
  • All four of West Brom’s Premier League wins this season have come on Saturdays - they have drawn six matches and lost 12 on the other days of the week.
  • Albion have 21 points after 30 games. The fewest points a team has had after 31 Premier League fixtures and gone on to avoid relegation is 23 by Fulham in 2007-08.

  • Southampton have lost seven Premier League away fixtures this season, one more than in the whole of 2019-20.
  • Nathan Redmond has been involved in five goals in his past two games for Southampton, as many as he had in his previous 30 appearances.
  • Danny Ings is one Premier League goal short of becoming the first player to reach double figures for Southampton in consecutive seasons since Graziano Pelle and Sadio Mane in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
