Southampton will have to take on Leicester City tonight without two key members of their squad.
Saints’ main goalscorer Danny Ings is nursing a hamstring injury that he picked up in Saints’ 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the South Coast club’s last fixture.
The other man missing will be former captain Ryan Bertrand, who missed the Spurs game altogether with injury.
Those players out are on top of the long-term squad absentees that include Oriol Romeu and Will Smallbone.
Leicester injury news: Two players back, one key man out for Saints visit
“Danny Ings and Ryan Bertrand are out, they are not training at the moment,” said Ralph Hasenhuttl at his pre-match press conference. [H/T Hampshire Live]
“Ingsy’s injury is not as bad as it looked at first but he will still miss some games, we hope he will come back for the last games.
“We need every player with five games in a few weeks at the end of the season.”
Leicester are third in the Premier League standings and are chasing a spot in next season’s Champions League.
We all know what happened the last time Saints hosted Brendan Rodgers’ side at St Mary’s and Southampton will be determined to avoid a repeat of that game, albeit with a weakened starting XI.
