Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl and his recruitment team have a big rebuild job on their hands and with limited funds.
It’s thought that Saints will only be able to spend money that is brought in through player sales, but reports say that Southampton are already targeting specific players.
According to The Sun, Saints are hoping to sign Celtic’s Ryan Christie for a good price in the summer.
The 26-year-old midfielder’s contract with The Bhoys expires at the end of 2021, which means Celtic will either needs to cash in on Christie now or risk losing him for nothing in January.
That report says the Scotland international has also interested Premier League sides Norwich City and Burnley.
It won’t be the first time Southampton have signed a Celtic player and, more often than not, those signings have been successful - including Virgil van Dijk, Stuart Armstrong, Victor Wanyama and Fraser Forster.
