Manchester United kicked off their 2021-22 Premier League campaign in style with a 5-1 routing of local rivals Leeds United last weekend.
This week, they’re visiting Southampton and plenty of intrigue surrounds the kind of team United could play with some headline-grabbing summer transfers and a couple of big-name omissions last week.
In his pre-match press conference, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer didn’t give too much away with his team news but made some big hints.
Striker Edinson Cavani, who has enjoyed both games he has played against Southampton so far, is back training after a period of Covid-19-related self-isolation.

Summer signing Raphael Varane is also in contention to play after training with the Manchester United first team all week, as well as fellow newcomer Jadon Sancho who made a brief substitute appearance against Leeds last weekend.
With regard to team news, that’s a boost as well, Edinson’s joined in, Raphael’s joined in and we’re getting fitter and fitter,” Solskjaer told media at his pre-match press conference.
“You’ll see on Sunday. They’ve worked well. They’ve had minutes. We’ve had a very good week ourselves. We’ll see who’s making the flight down to Southampton on Saturday.”
As for Marcus Rashford and Alex Telles, they will not feature for United as they try to recover from their respective injuries.
