Southampton vs Manchester United team news

Southampton will be hoping to get over their opening day defeat to Everton, but are set to face formidable opponent in Manchester United today.

Despite that loss, there has been some good news for Saints fans this week - influential captain James Ward-Prowse signed a new five-year contract with Southampton amid plenty of transfer interest.

On top of that, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has no new injury concerns to contend with ahead of United’s visit.

Sam McQueen and Will Smallbone remain Southampton’s only absentees.

As for Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could pull some surprises with his starting XI.

The Norwegian manager hinted that Raphael Varane, who signed from Real Madrid earlier this summer, could make his United debut today depending on a late fitness test.

Edinson Cavani, who seems to love playing Saints, could also feature after completing his self-isolation protocols.

Finally, Jadon Sancho could make his full debut for United. The big-money transfer from Borussia Dortmund made his debut as a substitute in his new team’s 5-1 hammering of Leeds United last weekend.
