Manchester City vs Southampton team news
Southampton make the long trip up to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium this afternoon to take on last season’s Premier League champions.
There’s a mixed bag of team news for both Ralph Hasenhuttl and Pep Guardiola for this fixture.
For Saints, Stuart Armstrong and Theo Walcott are confirmed to miss out as they continue to rehabilitate from their respective muscle injuries.
However, Shane Long is back in contention to make the matchday squad after he recovered from his positive test for COVID-19 while on international duty for the Republic of Ireland.
Will Smallbone is also back in training following his knee injury, though it’s thought he’s a long way off from featuring in first team football at this moment.
For Guardiola’s City, both Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden got minutes against RB Leipzig in their midweek Champions League win. It’s thought that both attack-minded midfielders will feature against Southampton on Saturday.
However, it’s unclear whether central defenders Aymeric Laporte and John Stones will be fit or not to play Saints.

- They have scored 21 goals in their past four home matches in all competitions, with 13 different players on target for City and two opposition players also scoring own goals.
- None of City’s last 47 league and cup matches has ended in a draw (W39, L8). They last drew against West Brom on 15 December.
