Aston Villa vs Southampton team news

Southampton are in fine form and will visit the Midlands to take on an Aston Villa side who have looked improved since former Liverpool man Steven Gerrard took charge in November 2021. Gerrard’s predecessor Dean Smith got sacked after Southampton beat them 1-0.

In terms of team news, Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has some issues to contend with.

Kyle Walker-Peters may not be available after he sustained a hamstring injury during Southampton’s 3-1 FA Cup win over West Ham United in the week.

Mohammed Salisu and Moi Elyounoussi both missed that game and it’s unclear whether they’re fit enough to appear in today’s Premier League clash with Villa.

Long-term absentees Lyanco, Nathan Tella and Alex McCarthy remain sidelined.

For Gerrard’s Villa, it looks like Bertrand Traore is in contention to feature today after he returned to full training, having recovered from a hamstring injury he picked up at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

However, it’s expected that Carney Chukwuemeka will not be available today.
