Southampton have reportedly ‘completed a deal’ to sign Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.

According to The Athletic, Bazunu will join Southampton on a permanent deal, with a transfer fee worth up to £15m depending on add-on conditions being met. It’s also thought a buy-back clause is included.

While Bazunu never made a first team appearance for City, he has impressed on two spells out on loan in League One.

He played for Rochdale in 2020-21 and was named Portsmouth’s Players’ Player and Player of the Season while on loan to the lowly League One side for the 2021-22 campaign.

That good form saw him called up to the Republic of Ireland national team in 2021. Since then, he has earned himself 10 caps for the country.

Saints are in need of a goalkeeper after losing Fraser Forster to Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer earlier this month.

If true, let’s hope Bazunu works out better than the last young goalkeeper Southampton bought from Manchester City, Angus Gunn.
